    "Metallicities of Classical Cepheids in the Inner Galactic Disk"
    銀河系中心から3∼ 5.5キロパーセクに位置するセファイドの金属量[Fe/H]を計測し、今まで調べられていなかった銀河系円盤内縁部の金属量勾配を明らかにしました。チリ・ラスカンパナス天文台のマゼラン望遠鏡(口径6.5m)にWINERED分光器を設置して行った観測にもとづく最初の論文です。

    "A Very Metal-poor RR Lyrae Star with a Disk Orbit Found in the Solar Neighborhood"
    太陽系近傍(約1kpc)に非常に金属量の低いRRライリ型変光星を発見しました。木曽シュミット望遠鏡で行ったKISOGP変光星探査で見つけた変光星を、WINERED近赤外線光分散分光器で観測したところ、太陽の100分の1よりも低い金属量をもつことがわかりました。さらに、RRライリ型変光星としてはめずらしく銀河系円盤の中を回転している運動を持つこともわかり、どのような起源を持つのか今後の研究が楽しみです。

    "Kinematics of Classical Cepheids in the Nuclear Stellar Disk"
    2011年に銀河中心付近に発見したセファイド変光星の視線速度を、すばる望遠鏡を 用いた近赤外線高分散分光観測で測定しました。その結果は、Nuclear Stellar Disk と呼ばれる銀河系中心の周囲にあるディスクと同じ回転をしていることを 支持するものでした。将来、視線速度だけでなく固有運動(接線方向の速度)を 測定してセファイドの運動がわかれば、ディスク中の星の形成や進化について 詳しい議論ができるようになると期待されます。

    銀河系中心とマゼラン銀河の観測データにもとづいて、セファイドとミラの周期光度関係(2.2ミクロン)が金属量に依存するかどうかを調べました。金属量依存性がもしあるとしても、0.1-0.15等級よりも小さい程度でしかないということがわかりました。

    IRSF望遠鏡で行った観測から、銀河系のバルジ中心部に3つの古典的セファイド 変光星を発見しました。3つのセファイド変光星の周期はいずれも約20日で 年齢が約2500万年であることがわかりました。 さらに、3000〜7000万年前に生まれたと考えられるセファイド変光星は 見つかりませんでした。この結果は、バルジ中心部での星形成率が 変化することを示しています。 くわしくは、こちらをご覧ください。

    2009年の論文(MNRAS, 397, 933)に引き続き、小マゼラン銀河にある2型セファイドの 周期光度関係を調べました。2つのマゼラン銀河の距離指数の差は約0.4等となり、 古典的セファイドの周期光度関係など他の方法で求めた値とおおよそ一致しました 2型セファイドの 周期光度関係が異なる銀河でも共通していて、 距離指標として有効であることを示しています。

    8年間にわたる銀河中心方向の観測から1364個の変光星を発見し、そのうち143個の ミラが他変光星までの距離を周期光度関係の利用によって推定しました。その結果、 銀河中心までの距離は8.24キロパーセクと見積もることができました。 また、銀河中心方向の星間減光についても議論を行いました。

    大マゼラン銀河にある2型セファイドの周期光度関係を、OGLE変光星カタログと IRSF近赤外線カタログを使って描き出しました。 さらに太陽の近くにある天体などと定量的な比較を行い、 2型セファイドを利用する距離指標を確立させました。

    球状星団にある2型セファイドの近赤外線観測。周期光度関係を確認し、しかも それがRRライリの周期光度関係と共通のものであることを発見した。 さらに、それらの変光星の質量がほぼ一定であることを明らかにした。
